CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR) -- The last thing a Chesterfield business owner expected to do on New Year’s Day was to save his business.
Bill Snodgrass said he is cleaning up Tuesday after an alleged drunk driver ran into his home health agency business, Welcome Homecare.
Police said a woman driving an Chevy S-10 pick-up veered off Boulder View Lane, ran down a hill, knocked down a sign and flattened two trees, before slamming into Snodgrass' business around 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Snodgrass said the woman's truck went into the building about three feet.
“It was a major disaster inside," Snodgrass said. "It looked like a bomb went off.”
Not only did the crash create a gaping hole in the building, but it knocked out electricity to the rest of his neighbors.
“It took out all the power, the internet and the phone system, so we're pretty much hurt for a while,” he said.
Police said the driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
“Well, there's a six-pack of Miller Light that bounced out of the truck, so evidently she was celebrating New Year’s Eve," Snodgrass said.
Chesterfield County police said they arrested three drunk drivers. Henrico County police also said three peple were also arrested on DUI charges.
CBS 6 News is still waiting to hear back from Richmond polices about how many drivers were arrested for DUI on New Year's Eve in the city.
“I was at home on New Year’s Eve watching a football game -- and you get affected by it anyway,” said Snodgrass.
