COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR) — Virginia State Police are currently investigating a crash on Interstate 95 southbound at the 56 mile marker.

The crash involved a state trooper and occurred at 1 p.m. Saturday.

State police said Trooper C. A. Putnam was outside of his vehicle attempting to change his flat tire when the driver of a Nissan pickup truck lost control of her vehicle and hit a Bounder RV.  The driver of the truck then ran off to the right side of the road and hit an embankment.  The truck flipped over and started heading towards the trooper.

Trooper Putnam drove away from the Nissan, but the truck hit his car.

Putnam was not struck but did suffer minor injuries as he dove out of the way of the vehicle.  He was later taken to Chippenham Medical Center.

The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries and was transported to VCU Medical Center.

The crash currently remains under investigation.
