DETROIT, Mich. (WDIV) — Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has given the go-ahead Friday for a bill that implements new rules for clinics that provide abortions.

The measure will require doctors to screen patients to make sure they haven’t been coerced into having an abortion.

It also requires that health facilities that advertise abortion services and conduct more than 120 abortions a year become licensed by the state.

However, Snyder vetoed a provision that would have barred Blue Cross Blue Shield from providing standard abortion coverage.

The pro-life governor said that legislation went too far — and should have included provisions for women whose lives were at risk or who were raped.
