The storm system that will be moving into the area overnight will bring a brief period of wet snow to central Virginia, and accumulations of 1-4″ across far western sections of the state, along and west of I-81.  A winter weather advisory is in effect for these areas, where travel difficulties are likely during the morning hours Saturday.
Carrie State Winter WxThe atmosphere will be supportive for a brief 3-hour window of wet snow in the Richmond Metro between 4 AM and 7 AM.  We’ll see cold enough temps aloft to support snow reaching the surface, but the near surface temps will range from 33-37 degrees in the metro, causing the snow to quickly melt on impact.

Warmer air will move into the area at the surface and in the mid-levels, causing the snow to melt higher in the atmosphere, with just a cold rain at the surface between 7 AM and the end of the event in the early afternoon hours.
