RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The Christmas storm system that continues to bring everything from blizzard conditions to severe thunderstorms is marching eastward Wednesday. Rain moved northeast into central Virginia early Wednesday morning after Midnight. Snow is falling in western and far northern Virginia, and has mixed with or changed over from the rain as far east as Louisa County and Spotsylvania County. In Caroline County, sleet mixed in with the rain, as well. The farther north and west you travel today, the greater winter weather impacts you will encounter in Virginia. This is why a Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect for western and far northern Virginia until 6 a.m. Thursday, where three to five inches of snow and sleet are expected to accumulate, plus up to a quarter-inch of ice. This combination will pose travel troubles for those along I-64 and I-81 in western Virginia through early Thursday morning.

Highs will range from the upper 30s in northwestern Virginia to the upper 50s in southeastern Virginia. Most of the heart of central Virginia will hold in the 40s today, including the Richmond Metro.
