BLACKSBURG, Va. (WTVR) - The Virginia Tech football team is honoring victims of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting and the similar tragedy on its own campus in 2007 with a helmet decal.

The Hokies are in Orlando, Florida getting ready for Friday's Russell Athletic Bowl.

During practices, the team is wearing a large ribbon on the side of its helmets.

The decal is half green for Sandy Hook Elementary School and half orange for Virginia Tech with the number 58 in the center.

That's the combined number of victims at both schools.

The helmet also has the word "prevail" written across it.
