End of the world predictions are as old as the Earth. Why has man always been so sure the end is near?
But do you know what? I’m sorry to say the Mayan prediction for tomorrow is absolutely true:
The world will end tomorrow without a doubt. At least for about 150,000 people around the world.
That’s how many people die on this planet every day.
Roughly two-thirds – 100,000—will die because they’re old and worn out.
Thirty percent off all the deaths are cause by hearts that give out – many more women than men, by the way. Nearly a quarter dies from infections or parasitic diseases.
War, murder and suicide claim about three percent of all those who die.
Accidents another two percent . . . death by surprise.
According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day because of poverty. Many live in the poorest villages on earth, out of sight and minds of most of the rest of the world, invisible in death.
Every generation believes the world can’t get much worse, that the Earth won’t tolerate our folly anymore and will simply fling us off into oblivion.
Which is why the end has always been near.
I bet there have been plenty of times when you’ve said I wish the day was over.
We take for granted that we have days to throw away.
But we don’t.
One day, the world will end for each and every one of us.
I hope it’s not tomorrow . . .
But maybe we should live like it is.
