Charlottesville, VA (WTVR) - Virginia's Department of Motor Vehicles is testing out new technology that may not require you to get in a car when taking your driving test.

DMV locations in Charlottesville and Fairfax are trying out a virtual reality simulator, instead of a car, for driving tests. It works just like a car, except it doesn't move. It even has rear view mirrors, turn signals and seatbelts.

"It's not going to be like driving your own car, but it will test the same skills," says Gabriel Camacho with the DMV.

It will be a while before the simulator is in all DMV branches. The agency is still using volunteers to test it out.
