RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Today was the deadline for the commonwealth to decide how residents will shop for healthcare under the coming affordable care act. States had until today to decide whether to set up a health care exchange regulated by the state or a private company, or go with the federal government's marketplace. Many states already made their decision, but Virginia hesitated, believing the affordable health care act would be undone if a republican won the white house. Governor McDonnell says the commonwealth was working on plans to build a state-run exchange but didn't feel confident that Virginia would have enough control over it, so the state didn't move in that direction.
