Central Virginia schools react to Connecticut school tragedy

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Central Virginia school systems are reacting to Friday’s school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

“Our top priority is the safety and security of our students and staff.  Chesterfield Schools has a strong working partnership with local and state law enforcement agencies which is especially critical in times of crisis,” Chesterfield County Schools spokesman Shawn Smith said in a statement.” Timely and accurate communication is a key component of our school division’s commitment to our staff and families.  Our communication system allows the school division to send calls and emails to over 60,000 households within minutes. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by the tragedy in Connecticut.”
