PETERSBURG, Va (WTVR)-- A UPS delivery driver was shot Monday evening while stopped at Lieutenants Run Apartment.

Just after 8 p.m., a UPS driver was shot in what may have been a robbery attempt, although Petersburg Police said the motive has not been determined. The driver was there to drop off a package and ended up shot in the leg.

For more than 32 years, Sieg Felty was behind the wheel of a UPS truck, making deliveries.

Just two years in retirement, he said it was upsetting to hear a driver was shot Monday evening.

He said that UPS is in the middle of their peak season, with holiday deliveries forcing most drivers to work late.

Felty said that UPS has always stressed driver safety and if a driver felt uncomfortable about making a delivery, it was ok to flag it and deliver it another day.

He also said that the company stresses not delivering at night in areas that are poorly lit.

Felty says the goal of every driver is to make it home safe every day.
