L.C. Bird won their first ever Division 6 State Championship by beating Ocean Lakes 14-10 at Scott Stadium.  Skyhawks running back Paul Robertson rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

L.C. Bird has the distinction of winning the final Dominion District, Central Region and Division 6 State Championships.  Next year, the VHSL will change their playoff setup.

The Goochland Bulldogs won their second Division two State Championship in six years by beating Essex 41-14.  Before the game, Goochland broke down near Roanoke but it didn't stop them for winning their first title since 2006.

In college hoops, Virginia Tech suffered their first loss of the year at West Virginia 68-67.  Erick Green scored 23 points in the loss.

Virginia won their seventh straight 67-39 over the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State.  Akil Mitchell scored a career high 20 points.

Richmond won their third straight, 83-82 in overtime over James Madison.  Five Spiders were in double figures led Darien Brothers' 18 points.  But it was Kendall Anthony's free-throw with five seconds left in overtime that was the difference.
