BLACKSTONE, Va. (WTVR) -- It's been a hard year for many people in Virginia and the town of Blackstone is celebrating their perseverance with a Christmas tree made by the people who live there.

The town had money troubles at the beginning of the year, so much trouble that city workers weren't always being paid on time.

Things have since started to get better, and to help spread cheer some small business owners chopped down a 20-foot tree and set it up in the city.

Others donated lights and decorations to help make the tree ready for the holidays.

Decorating won't be finished until next Friday, when the star on top of the tree is lit at the end of the town's Christmas parade.
