ST. CHARLES, MO (WTVR) — Residents in a small Missouri town say a pit bull round up is robbing responsible pet owners of their dogs.
KTVI reported that about 20 dogs from Sikeston were shipped up to St. Charles to make room for seized pit bulls in Southern Missouri.
Additionally, the pit bulls may have no reported problems and that some of the dogs may not even be pit bulls, like Yulonda Mitchell’s dogs.
Mitchell said officers took her brother’s dogs, even though she believed they were bulldogs. She said that her dogs were “licensed and up to date on their shots.”
Mitchell also said that the dog catchers didn’t remove stray dogs, which were spotted during her interview.
The station called representatives of the City of Sikeston, but did not receive a call back.
The pit bulls that were seized apparently risked immediate euthanasia. In an effort to stop the killing, a Sikeston shelter sent about 35 dogs to other shelters.
However, now those various breeds need homes in the St. Louis area because of the roundup 150 miles away.
