Men in masks open fire at apartment, kill one

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) -- The Hopewell Police Department is investigating a double shooting that has killed at least one person.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. last night, officers responded to shots fired in the 1500 block of Piper Square.

Two shooting victims were found. The first victim, Morris D. Flowers Jr., 46, of Hopewell died on scene. The second victim, Lamonta Ellis, 30, of Spring Grove was med-flighted to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries, but was listed in stable condition.

The Hopewell Police Department believes two or three males dressed in all black, wearing black masks opened fire on the victims in the breezeway between apartments.

They left the scene on foot towards the back gate of Piper Square towards Old Iron Court. Police believe the suspects may have fled  to a parked vehicle just outside the gate on Old Iron Court.

Police are investigating and have yet to establish a motive.
