BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7.com) – Two Virginia Tech football players have been charged with setting off an explosive device near a Blacksburg apartment.

20-year-old Joshua Trimble and 19-year-old Brian Rody both were arrested. Trimble and Rody are members of the Virginia Tech football team. Click here to read more on WDBJ7.com.

The Washington Post reported the pair made small explosive out of aluminum, toilet bowl cleaner and a soda bottle. The Post reported the players left it outside an apartment as a prank.

“They went back to their apartment and were laughing about it,” their attorney Jimmy Turk told the Post. “They certainly did not have any idea that it would be anything at all that would constitute a felony charge being brought.” Turk said he expected the charges to be reduced during a hearing next month.
