ABC store in Richmond is one of state’s top sellers

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control tracks sales for each of its 337 stores. The department collects dollars and cents figures for the 2012 fiscal year.

One store at the corner of Ellwood and Thompson in Richmond is really bringing in the cash. The 10 North Thompson street store is ranked fifth overall here in Virginia for alcohol sales, behind three stores in Virginia Beach and one in Fairfax County.

So far this year the store has sold $6,121,639.80 worth of liquor  That’s some 356,843 bottles and 80,487.60 gallons.

In the 2011 fiscal year, alcohol sales yielded $121 million in profits. Combined with alcohol tax revenue, that generated a total of $339 million for the state that year.
