HIGH RIDGE, MO. (KTVI) – Jefferson County Sheriff’s investigators call it careless handling of a firearm during a night of drinking and now a man is in critical condition after being shot.

The shooting occurred just before midnight Monday at the Walden Pond Apartment Complex in High Ridge. Four men had been watching the movie “Savages” when they began talking about a scene in the movie that shows one person disarming another person with a weapon. Two of the men demonstrated the best way they thought to do it and one of the men was shot in the chest with a 9mm handgun.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Captain Ron Arnhart said, “There’s nothing funny about this whatsoever. You are talking about a person’s life is at stake. When you interject drinking, when you interject an outside source or something, where it’s going to impair your judgment, these type of incidents can occur. The best thing to do is leave the weapon out of it all together.”

The name of the 25-year-old victim has not been released. A 27-year-old man who is the owner of the gun is in custody. The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney has taken charges under advisement.

This is a trailer for the movie, “Savages”.
