Chesterfield County, VA (WTVR) – Central Virginia is in need of rain and because of this, many residents still have mandatory water restrictions in effect.

These areas include Chesterfield County, Prince George County, Dinwiddie County, Colonial Heights and Petersburg. All of those areas rely on Lake Chesdin for their water.

Those restrictions have been in effect since August and mean you can’t water your lawn or wash your car on certain days.

Bill Hayden with Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality says late fall into early winter is usually when Central Virginia starts to see more precipitation. But that hasn’t happened so far this year.

Hayden also says the ground is extremely dry, as are streams and other bodies of water that feed into Lake Chesdin. Water levels on Lake Chesdin are currently 17 inches below the dam.

If conditions don’t change soon, Virginia could enter next year with a water deficit, which means water restrictions won’t be going away anytime soon.
