A very dry November

Rainfall for the month of November continues to be quite low for most of the area.  A typical November produces about 3.25″ of rainfall (or rain and melted down snow).  This month has barely produced a quarter-inch of rain in the Richmond metro area.

We are tracking a system for Tuesday which will bring our last chance of rain for the month.  As of now, computer model rainfall forecasts range from a few hundredths of an inch to about one-third of an inch of rainfall.

We currently have the second driest November on record.  The amount of rain on Tuesday will determine if we stay at that level, still finish in the top five, or get out of the top five completely.

A good portion of Virginia is drier than normal.  Sandy and the subsequent coastal storm produced more rainfall for northern and eastern Virginia, so rainfall deficits there have not been as bad.

The current runs of the computer models do not indicate any other major chance of rain in the next seven to ten days.
