HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) – A 20-year-old man and 13-year-old boy are accused of shooting out more than 30 street lights in Hopewell.

Bryan Wallace, 20, is charged with felony vandalism, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and discharging a BB gun in the city. Wallace is being held in Riverside Regional Jail. Charges against the teenager are pending.

Police were alerted to the vandalism Friday night, just before 11:00 p.m.

“Officers responded to a report of two males walking in the area of Smithfield Ave. and North Ave. who were carrying firearms,” Hopewell Police spokesman Damon Stoker wrote in an email. “Officers arrived in the area and challenged the two males who were concealing a long weapon and a pistol.” Police later determined both weapons were BB guns.

Police said the BB gun shootings caused more than $6,000 in damage. In addition to the street lights, a car was also vandalized, police said.

Police asked people who live in and around the Farmingdale neighborhood to check their property for damage and call police if any is discovered.
