CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Monday night police found a woman in her 40s dead in a Chesterfield home. Then a stretch of Interstate 95 was briefly shut down after a crash that involved the suspect connected with the suspicious death.

Capt. Kevin Smith said that the female was found dead at 9:23 p.m.,  in the 13500 block of Brandy Oaks Road in the Brandy Oaks subdivision in southwestern Chesterfield. Police said this is believed to be a domestic homicide.

"Shocked, yes shocked," neighbor Gus Gordon exclaimed.  "You know it had to be some sort of dispute, some sort of violence or a relationship that went bad."

A description of the suspect was given and police spotted the vehicle about ten minutes later. The suspect vehicle fled and police gave chase, Smith said, traveling down Route 288 and exiting onto I-95 north.

The suspect wrecked near exit 64, Willis Road exit. He jumped from the vehicle and tried to run across the interstate. He was struck by a car traveling southbound.

The homicide suspect is at VCU Medical Center being treated for serious injuries.

"It just lets you know it can happen to anybody, you know sometimes relationships go bad and things go sour and things get out of hand and people act uncontrollably," Gordon said.

Police said they will not release the identities until further investigation.
