INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (CNN) — Two people were killed and several more were hospitalized after an explosion rocked an Indianapolis neighborhood late Saturday night.

Two homes were flattened, and more than a dozen other homes on the block were damaged. About 200 people in the neighborhood were evacuated.

Officials described the condition of the damaged homes at a news conference Sunday morning.

“The fire itself was four homes fully involved,” said Deputy Chief Kenneth Bacon. “Two of those are still standing, when I say standing, there’s part of a structure, and then I would say the radius is at least two blocks in all directions.”

While the cause of the explosion is not yet known, CNN affiliate WTHR reports that a gas leak is suspected.

Dan Considine, of Citizens Gas, said at a press conference Sunday morning that no leaks were found outside the perimeter of the home where the initial explosion happened, but crews won’t be able to determine the exact cause until they get access to the actual site.

Officials say the investigation could take several weeks.
