Hampden-Sydney investigates campus incident after Obama win

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. (WTVR) — According to the the president of Hampden-Sydney College, a group of students threatened and shouted racial epithets at students in the schools’ Minority Student Union house.

The event took place shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday November 6, shortly after it was announced President Obama had clinched a second term in office.

According to a message from the college’s President Howard, about 40 students gathered near the MSU house in a, “display of partisan anger.” Then some members of of the group set off fireworks and broke beer bottles.

The incident lasted about 45 minutes until it was diffused by other students and members of the college’s faculty and staff.

“There is no place for bigotry or racism at Hampden-Sydney,” Howard said.

The college is currently investigating the incident.
