RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Some local kids got a chance to help support the James River Park Friday.

They restocked a quarry pond on Belle Isle in an effort to establish a full ecosystem for the area.

Kids released minnows, catfish, crayfish and snails into the pond with the idea that some of the animals will be able to support each other as a source of food.

The event was labeled as a gift to the City of Richmond for the coming holiday season.

No city money was used for the event. It all came from those participating.
