VARINA, Va. (WTVR) - This year's Varina vs. Highland Springs game kicked off the 2012 Central Region playoff schedule. The winner won the Capital District title and claimed the final playoff spot in Division 6 while the loser would wait until August to begin another season.
Varina didn't waste any time jumping on the Springers early and would pull away with a 20-0 win to take the District title and the number two seed in the Division 6 playoffs.
The Blue Devils defense held Highland Springs to just 128 yards of total offense and only six first downs.
Varina's Herb Anderson rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Brandon Wood added a 41 yard touchdown in the first quarter.
