(CNN) – Federal criminal charges will not be filed against former Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernard “Bernie” Fine, who was accused of sexually abusing children, U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian announced Friday.

The year-long investigation revealed insufficient evidence to pursue federal charges, Hartunian said.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York has closed its investigation.

One accuser, Zachary Tomaselli, said he had fabricated allegations against the coach.

Syracuse ball boy Mike Lang and his stepbrother, Bobby Davis, also stepped forward to accuse the coach of molesting them over several years.

When the allegations first surfaced, Fine — married with a son and two daughters — called them “patently false.”
