Police said Fox was wearing a safety vest and was standing with other troopers when he was hit.

Neither Valencia nor the child in her Jeep were hurt, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Trooper Fox left behind a wife, parents, a sister and a brother-in-law.
