While several battleground states were called early, the Virginia presidential race remained hard to project.

Then, at 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, the race had Barack Obama with a slight lead over Romney.  CBS projected that Obama will win Virginia.

Obama did well in Henrico and Prince William County, CBS said. Romney did not do as well in the counties where he needed the big wins, reported CBS.

The announcement gave Mr. Obama 303 electoral college votes.

In 2008, the state also turned blue.
