Clear skies, dry air and calm winds allowed temperatures to drop below freezing across much of south-central Virginia.

Cloud cover across northern Virginia kept lows from dropping below 40°.

This was the coldest low for Richmond since it hit 30° on March 11.  The coldest low of the season prior to today was 36° late Friday evening.

Normal low for Richmond for this date is 43°, and the record low is 23°, set back in 1934.

Below normal temperatures will continue for the next week.  Tuesday morning has the potential to be the coldest morning of the week.
