STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Investigators with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office are working to figure out who put homemade explosives outside two homes early Tuesday morning. Investigators said the two incidents are related to a third explosion inside a Fredericksburg home.

Deputies were called to the first home, in the Kings Grant subdivision, around 4:30 a.m. to investigate gunshots. Once at the home, investigators determined the sound actually came from an explosion.

They said someone either threw or placed a “homemade incendiary device” outside the home. No one was hurt and the home sustained “minor damage,” Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Bill Kennedy wrote in an email.

One hour and 20 minutes later, a similar incident occurred in the Country Ridge subdivision, Kennedy said.

Investigators said they believed both crimes were related to an incident that occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. at the 3100 block of Normandy Avenue in Fredericksburg.

In that incident, police were called to the Normandy Ave. home after an explosion.

“The occupant of the home, an adult female, was not injured and evacuated the home safely along with her dog,” Fredericksburg Police Public Information Officer Natatia Bledsoe wrote in an email. “The investigation has determined that a homemade incendiary device was placed or thrown inside the home and subsequently detonated.”

A Virginia State Police bomb dog was unable to located any other explosives, Bledsoe said.

The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is working along with the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Virginia State Police and the Fredericksburg Police Department to investigate.
