RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – If you’ve been waiting to file your absentee ballot in Virginia, you may have a bit more time thanks to “Superstorm” Sandy.

The Secretary of the State Board of Elections announced Tuesday that local electoral boards in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy have been asked to extend absentee voting hours up to the Saturday, Nov. 3, deadline.

However, it’s a good idea to check your general registrar office’s website — and call ahead — to find out their hours.

And since Virginia does not have Early Voting, in order to vote absentee, you must be registered to vote — and meet one of the 19 qualifying absentee reasons.

Also, if you’re planning to vote absentee, officials remind you to bring an ID to the voter registration office.
