RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--If you were downtown near two night clubs in mid-September, police are hoping you recognize the guy in surveillance video they have released to the public.

They say a piece of clothing he's wearing may help solve a murder mystery.  The suspect is wearing a ball cap which may have answers police need to solve a month-old murder.

“I want people to look at that ball cap and the person wearing it,” said homicide detective Jamie Baynes.  “On the night of the murder, Gregory Carter was with them both at Club Aurora and Club Paradise."

Gregory Carter, aged 37-year-old was last seen alive with an unidentified man and Jason Goodson, who's already been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

“He's not saying much," said Baynes.

Police say because of Goodson's silence, their investigation has stalled.  But he did tell police there was no arguing involved.  “I don't know if he's telling the truth, so that's why we need to talk to this third person," added Baynes.

Police believe Carter was shot to death by one of the two men he met in downtown Richmond.  His body was found slumped over the wheel of his wrecked car on Newton Road in the East End.

The missing piece of their murder mystery they say, is wearing a ball cap.  Carter was known to frequent the two night clubs.  He only lived a block away.  Police feel somebody watching the story Tuesday night or reading this has information they need.

“It's a light-colored cap with a black visor or black writing on that visor," said Baynes.

If you recognize the man in the ball cap, police want you to call their anonymous tip line, Crimestoppers, at 780-1000.
