(WTVR) - Here's something to think about the next time "Fido" gives you a canine kiss.

A new study in the Journal Archives of Oral Biology found  dog owners had a higher rate of disease-causing bacteria in their mouths.

Out of the dogs tested, researchers found more than 70 percent had the bacteria that can make people or pets more vulnerable to mouth and teeth diseases. In the people tested, researchers say between 16 and 30 percent carried the germs.

The study's writers say the results suggest how easily the oral bacteria can be exchanged between dogs and "their humans".
