RICHMOND (WTVR) – The University of Phoenix has announced plans to shut down 115 of its locations across the country. Ninety learning resource centers and 25 campuses will close, but campuses located in Richmond and Virginia Beach will remain open.

The company that owns the school, Apollo Group, said the closures are all part of a plan to cut $300 million in operating costs by 2014.

About 800 employees will lose their jobs. The changes will directly affect about 13,000 students.
