RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A storm system the CBS 6 Storm Team has been tracking this week from the Pacific Northwest is moving through the nation’s Heartland and Midwest today. It should produce severe thunderstorms there before it tracks east toward us Thursday. Central Virginia will have the threat for damaging straight-line winds in excess of 60 mph Thursday afternoon and night ahead of the approaching surface cold front.

The Storm Prediction Center issued this Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms in central and south-central Virginia for Thursday afternoon and night. This will coincide with the timing of the cold front’s arrival from the west, tapping into a warmer and more moist air-mass. In addition, the upper-level low pressure system will provide atmospheric lift for storm formation.

Stay with CBS 6, we’ll keep you ahead of the storm.
