RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Morning cloud-cover and showers have limited our instability in much of central and western Virginia. In addition, the cold front is already tracking over the mountains into western Virginia at Noon, bringing cooler, more stable air into the region.

The only part of the state with enough factors still in place for thunderstorms is far south-central and southeast Virginia. Before the front arrives there this evening, isolated strong to potentially severe thunderstorms are possible.

The primary severe threat will be damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, but any thunderstorm will produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning.  Elsewhere prior to the cold frontal passage, showers will continue to track northeast. The front should clear the Richmond Metro by 9 p.m., with rapidly clearing skies from west to east behind the front.
