RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Two Richmond police officers fired several months ago after they allegedly made threatening comments about the president and first lady now say they are going to sue the city.

This comes after the city denied a request to allow one of the officers a public hearing to ask for his job back.

Instead, a private hearing will take before the Richmond Personnel Board on Nov. 14 .
The second officer will have his hearing in December.

Last month, the officers’ attorney said that the pair wanted their jobs back, saying the allegations were false.

Additionally, Attorney James Towey also sent a letter last month to Richmond City Attorney Allen Jackson requesting that the hearings be open to the public.

The officers were fired after an investigation stemming from an RPD source who told CBS 6 News’ Sandra Jones about the alleged comments.

The whistleblower said the inappropriate comments were made by a 20-year police veteran, against the president and first lady, who were in Richmond for a campaign rally at VCU.

“There was an officer providing exterior security to the President on that day on the phone with the supervisor. The supervisor said to that particular officer, ‘you’re down there right? So, you can take a couple of shots, you might have to kill yourself, but you can take a couple of shots.’”
