RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A Shockoe Bottom murder suspect whose conviction was overturned has pleaded no contest in the case. In a John Marshall courtroom Wednesday morning, Kevin Cunningham plead no contest to second-degree murder and a use of a firearm charge.

In exchange for the plea, Cunningham will be sentenced to no more than 21 years eight months in prison when he is sentenced in November. Cunningham would have faced 25 years to life in prison had he been convicted without the plea deal.

His original conviction in the April 2010 shooting death of Jeremy Uzzle outside Have a Nice Day Cafe was overturned in January.
