(WTVR) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed at least one person has died in Virginia from a non-contagious form of meningitis.

In total, 26 cases of the inflammation have been reported. All the cases are connected to a steroid injection used to treat back pain, according to the CDC.

Federal health officials have identified the manufacturer and have issued a recall of the injection, but more cases are expected because it can take up to 28 days for the infection to develop.

The CDC said two people have also died in Tennessee and another in Maryland.

Symptoms for this type of meningitis include severe headache, nausea, dizziness and fever.
