SHANGHAI, China (CCTV) - Traffic snarls were seen on China's G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway near Shanghai, as the Chinese government started to pilot a new policy to lift road tolls for passenger cars from Sunday midnight.

Sunday is the first day of China's eight-day holidays bridging Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holidays.

Vehicles, mainly passenger cars for traveling, crammed the toll gates of Shanghai-Suzhou section of the G15 Expressway.

Expressway traffic jams had been seen during China's national holidays before. But the situation is more serious this time mainly because of the new toll-free policy, as well as more accidents, according to drivers.

The Shanghai-Suzhou section of G2 Beijing-Shanghai Expressway also saw some traffic congestion but with alleviated situation.
