CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va.  (WTVR)  -  The Chesterfield County School Board to submit a plan to renovate several schools and to build a new one. The plan would result in renovations at nine county schools between now and 2020.

The revised plan would eventually be voted on as part of the county's comprehensive plan.

The first tier of the plan affects seven elementary schools:

  • Harrowgate
  • Enon
  • Ettrick
  • Crestwood
  • Beulah
  • Matoaca
  • Reams Road

It would also mean renovations and revitalization at Providence and Manchester middle schools.

All of those schools will see renovations, some of them structural, some of them functional.  The goal is to get them more modernized to handle the growing technology the kids are learning and administrators are using.

Some schools are very old, like Beulah Elementary School, which dates back to 1928.

The plan also includes building a brand new elementary school at Old Hundred and Otterdale Road to relieve overcrowding at Watkins Elementary.

Overall, the plan could cost the county as much as $250 million and is subject to change based on the economy and county growth.

The school board will hand over their recommendations to the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors.  The tentative vote is scheduled for October 24th.
