It’s a day adults and children can be excited about– Thursday, September 27, is National Chocolate Milk Day!

The delicious drink was invented by Sir Hans Sloane in 1687. Sloane was a doctor and praised the “health giving” qualities of chocolate milk.

His other claim to fame was succeeding Sir Isaac Newton as President of the Royal Society in Britain.

According to the National Chocolate Milk day site, drinking chocolate was fairly uncommon until the 1820s because no one knew how to produce a smooth chocolate taste in liquid form.

In 1828 the Van Houten company in Amsterdam invented the cocoa pressing method, which created a light, fluffy chocolate powder that would dissolve in water or milk.

National Coffee Day is coming up soon–this Saturday, Sept. 29.
