Virginia’s students out perform students nationally on SATs

(WTVR) – The College Board’s review of Virginia students’ SAT scores reflected students in the Commonwealth are prepared for college. Graduating Virginia seniors scored higher numbers than public school students nationwide on the 2012 SATs.

Virginia students were 17 points higher than the national average score of 508 in the reading portion. The report also showed that all ethnic groups outperformed their peers as well.

Sixty-eight percent of the state`s public school graduates in 2012 took the SAT. The College Board defined the standardized assessment as, “critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills students have developed over time and that they need to be successful in college.”

This past February, the College Board ranked Virginia third in the nation in how its students scored on advanced placement exams
