(CNN) - Suicide now kills more people than car accidents.
That's according to a new study from the American Journal of Public Health.
Researchers found traffic accidents were the number two cause of injury-related deaths over the past decade.
They credit recent traffic safety measures across the country for helping curb deadly accidents by 25 percent.
During that same period, suicide deaths rose by 15 percent- bringing it to the number one cause of injury-related death.
Researchers say deaths from unintentional poisoning and falls have also increased.
