CHESTERFIELD, Va (WTVR) -- It's an issue that's gaining national attention--bullying.  Now an awareness movement based off one of the country's most devastating mass shootings is making its way to Central Virginia.  The scheduled events are aimed at getting parents in on the action.

Rachel's Challenge, named for Rachel Scott--the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999, is centered around helping people replace acts of violence, bullying and negativity with acts of kindness and compassion.

Parents, students and others are invited to attend the anti-bullying sessions running Monday through Thursday:

• Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. at Bird High, 10301 Courthouse Road

• Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at Manchester High, 12601 Bailey Bridge Road

• Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Thomas Dale High, 3626 W. Hundred Road

• Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at Midlothian High, 401 Charter Colony Parkway

• Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Robious Middle, 2701 Robious Crossing Drive

During the community sessions, parents will learn about Rachel’s Challenge and discover ways they can support their students and school in starting a chain reaction of kindness.
