ATLANTA, Georgia (WGCL) - Gwinnett County police arrested a man who allegedly was speeding down Interstate 85 with his girlfriend on the hood of his car earlier this week.

Police were tipped off about the incident after other drivers called 911 on Tuesday afternoon.

"She's beating on the windshield like trying to get him to stop," one caller told a Gwinnett County dispatcher. "I'm right beside him going 70 mph."

Jonathon Salas was driving his Jeep about 85 mph in the rain with his girlfriend on the hood of his car, according to police reports.

The 911 callers told police that they tried to box the jeep in when it stopped on the exit ramp to Buford Drive.

"Holy cow, he's trying to get away from us now," said the 911 caller. "Everyone's got him trapped, trapped in. They're about to beat this guy up.

When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with the victim, who was extremely shaken.

"She's extremely lucky," said Cpl. Edwin Ritter of the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The victim said she got into a physical fight with Salas when he was leaving their apartment.

The argument continued into the parking lot. Salas got into the car and the victim apparently got on top of the car at some point. Before she could get off the hood,

Salas started the car and put it into gear, forcing her back onto the car, according to reports.

The victim told police at one point Salas made a U-turn, almost throwing her from the car.

Witnesses also provided officers with photos from the incident.

Salas was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and simple battery against the victim.
