HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police said a school bus hit a Henrico High School student Friday morning.

Henrico Police spokesperson Lt. Linda Toney said the incident happened around 8:10 near Byron and Duke streets.

The bus was carrying students to Wilder Middle School. Those students were put on another bus and taken to school.

Henrico police are still investigating this incident to decide if anyone will be charged.

Christopher Griffin told CBS 6 News' Sandra Jones that when he turned, he spotted a school heading in his direction.

"We were just walking down the road going to the bus stop,” said Griffin. "A car was coming from the other side of the road. And the bus driver swerved over and hit him in the leg."

Griffin said the bus driver struck his friend who was walking about 10 feet in front of him.

"He didn't get out to help us,” said Griffin, who said he now plans to drive to school after Friday's ordeal.

The victim was rushed to VCU Medical Center.

Griffin said his friend's leg injury "was about the size of an orange and was a couple of inches deep."

Additionally, according to Griffin, his friend was in good spirits, underwent surgery and is expected to be ok.

Cherise Miller said she emailed Delegate Joe Morrissey, who represents this neighborhood, asking for sidewalks along this roadway after what happened.

"It's alarming. And I would really like to see some change," she said. "This is a very busy area, but a lot of children are in this neighborhood. So I would really like to see something positive come out of it."

CBS 6 is waiting to hear back from Morrissey about Miller's email about adding sidewalks in the neighborhood.
