RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - WTVR-CBS 6 will broadcast as many as eight VCU Rams men's basketball games during the upcoming college basketball season. The games will be shown on either the CBS 6's main channel (6.1) or sub-channel 6.3.

“CBS 6 is thrilled to make these games available to Ram fans in our viewing area.  The enthusiasm and energy surrounding Shaka Smart and Rams basketball is apparent, for us to partner with VCU is a ‘win’ for the station,” WTVR-CBS 6 General Manager Stephen Hayes said. “Hopefully the Rams will be back on our air when the NCAA tournament comes to CBS 6 in March.”

Games scheduled to appear on CBS 6  include the regular season opener vs. Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 9), a match-up against Longwood (Dec. 21) and A-10 match ups vs. St. Bonaventure (Jan. 12) and Rhode Island (Jan. 30).

This deal with CBS 6 now means 85-percent of VCU’s regular season games will be available to fans in Central Virginia on live television. For games not broadcast on CBS 6, a radio broadcast will be available on CBS 6.3 and on 107.3 FM.

CBS 6.3 can be found on channel 206 for Comcast customers and 466 for Verizon Fios customers.

“This partnership provides a phenomenal opportunity to showcase our program,” VCU men’s basketball head coach Shaka Smart said in a statement. “Our fans in Central Virginia will get to watch almost 90-percent of VCU Basketball games on live TV. We’re extremely excited to provide such tremendous television coverage for our loyal fans.”

“There are only a select amount of teams around the country who will receive this type of live television coverage,” VCU Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin said in a statement. “That speaks volumes about how people around the country and this region feel about VCU Basketball.”

“We have always enjoyed a great relationship with Stephen Hayes and his staff at WTVR CBS 6,” McLaughlin added. “For years we have relied on them to help promote all of our sports through various types of advertising. With this agreement to air our games live on their 6.1 and 6.3 channels, the partnership now goes to the next level."

In addition to the games broadcast on CBS 6, the Rams are scheduled to play 15 games on national TV. A full VCU basketball broadcast scheduled is available here.

The Rams are coming off a season in which they won the Colonial Athletic Association title and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament. Over the summer the Rams left the CAA and now compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
