GREAT FALLS, S.C. (WGHP) — A South Carolina man was arrested after he allegedly told deputies he shot two horses because he wanted to “demonstrate” a firearm for a friend.

WSOC reported that 24-year-old Kendrick Culp told deputies he was trying to sell the .22-caliber rifle to his friend and “wanted to demonstrate the weapon.”

Deputies said Culp was showing the gun to his friend behind his home on McClinton Road on Sunday when he allegedly shot at the two horses in a neighboring pasture.

One of the horses was killed, while the other is recovering from three gunshot wounds to its neck, WSOC reported.

Chester County Sheriff Richard Smith said bullet casings from the rifle were found in four different areas in Culp’s backyard.

While Culp was arrested Monday, deputies are searching for the friend who he allegedly sold the gun to. The friend was not identified and it is not clear what charges he could face.

Culp is charged with two counts of ill-treatment to animals. He remained in jail on Tuesday under a $7,500 bond.
